چکیده

This paper discusses issues and practical requirements for an adaptive wing in relation to currently available technology. Adaptive wings offer many benefits, but a viable wing will require research into several areas, including selection of initial and perturbed airfoil shapes, steady and unsteady aerodynamic analysis of adaptive airfoils, and methods for real-time shape control of an adaptive wing system. An overview of adaptive wing history is briefly covered, including some recent developments. Development considerations for an adaptive wing system are then discussed. Aerodynamic performance and stability should be considered in the context of the wing’s structural integrity and aeroelasticity. Particular attention should be paid to the unsteady nature of the flow, as standard quasi-steady flow analysis techniques should be abandoned due to the rapid changes in wing shape and motion. Due to the large number of variable and measured parameters, an advanced control system is required to relate the flight conditions with changes in geometry. Issues related to adapting wings to various aircraft scales will be discussed, specifically micro aerial vehicles (μAVs), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or RPVs), full-scale aircraft, and ornithopters.

Numerical solution of unsteady flow on airfoils with vibrating local flexible membrane

Unsteady flow separation on the airfoils with local flexible membrane (LFM) has been investigated in transient and laminar flows by the finite volume element method. A unique feature of the present method compared with the common computational fluid dynamic softwares, especially ANSYS CFX, is the modification using the physical influence scheme in convection fluxes at cell surfaces. In contr...

Airfoil Shape Optimization with Adaptive Mutation Genetic Algorithm

An efficient method for scattering Genetic Algorithm (GA) individuals in the design space is proposed to accelerate airfoil shape optimization. The method used here is based on the variation of the mutation rate for each gene of the chromosomes by taking feedback from the current population. An adaptive method for airfoil shape parameterization is also applied and its impact on the optimum desi...

Optimal adaptive leader-follower consensus of linear multi-agent systems: Known and unknown dynamics

In this paper, the optimal adaptive leader-follower consensus of linear continuous time multi-agent systems is considered. The error dynamics of each player depends on its neighbors’ information. Detailed analysis of online optimal leader-follower consensus under known and unknown dynamics is presented. The introduced reinforcement learning-based algorithms learn online the approximate solution...
